Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner, Trainer and Consultant
If it’s the journey, not the destination, that really counts, then I have had a journey with a theme. When in elementary school my best friend, Gene Villigan, and I were given extra math problems, not as a punishment but for the sheer joy of doing math and to keep us busy, since we had completed our regular assignments. As a result, I became curious why others didn’t like math or found math to be difficult.
In high school, I decided to teach math and hoped to do it in a way that made it fun and easy for others. My undergraduate degree was a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics and Science Education. I taught math for six years during which time I became involved in a local church. A friend and pastor encouraged me to consider Christian ministry where I could help people find joy and meaning in life. And eventually I did respond to that call, went to seminary, and served as a pastor for twenty years.
During that time, I did pastoral counseling. As people shared their struggles, I realized a much better tool box was needed to help people quickly and effectively. I was turned on to the potential of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and for me, it was love at first sight.
First, I experienced incredible change in myself. Later, I facilitated “divorced and separated” groups and cancer support groups. Watching these participants navigate life challenges with greater ease and better outcomes using NLP inspired me to study this dynamic field even more.
1993 marked another huge change for me as I answered the call to use Neuro-Linguistic Programming in an even larger way. I left ministry and founded Future Life Now, LLC. I also decided to pursue an additional masters, this one in social work. The area of substance abuse treatment called to me and I worked for 13 years as a counselor, supervisor, and eventually organizational development director in that field. All the while, I continued to maintain Future Life Now.
My path has been one of helping others get more out of life at a variety of levels: cognition, personal growth in a religious sense, escaping the trap of addiction, and promoting physical, emotional and spiritual health through NLP. My extensive training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming continues and my Trainer/Consultancy status gives me the skills and privilege of training the next generation of NLP practitioners. I have also trained in the Sounder Sleep System® which I have found to be a wonderful tool for using the body to calm the mind. And I have a rich tool set for helping people find the way out of chronic pain.
I so enjoy helping others achieve their desired outcome. As my NLP trainers say, it’s all about creating a world to which people want to belong.
