Thank you for sharing your challenge and hope for a better tomorrow.
Here’s what we recommend for you.
Somatic has become a popular word lately in the world of movement, therapy, exercise and yoga. It is being used to describe anything in which the body is involved. That is not surprising since Soma comes from the Ancient Greek word for “body.”
And while all intend to include your body as part of the process, some of these marketing approaches have just jumped on the soma popular band wagon and are offering the same thing they always did but calling it a different name.
We offer somatic education. Somatic Education was born decades ago, before somatic was a buzzword. Thomas Hanna coined the phrase and then the field of Somatic Education when he took a training with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and then went on to develop his own body of work called Hanna Somatic Education.
Somatic Education is different in that it focuses on the learning aspect of the nervous system and motor cortex. The Feldenkrais Method® is one of the best known modalities within the field of Somatic Education. Also in the field of somatic education are approaches like the Alexander Technique, Body Mind Centering and Continuum. Key to our understanding of somatic education is the non-judgmental questions we ask through novel movement sequences. It is this quality that calms and regulates the nervous system while opening the doorway to upgraded movement habits.
Here at Future Life Now, the Feldenkrais Method is pivotal to everything we do. Cynthia Allen projected the future of online learning over 10 years ago and created the first online Feldenkrais® membership, Your Learning Body. She is the leader in understanding online possibilities and in bringing somatic education to hundreds of thousands of people while keeping a personal relationship with her students in her exclusive membership. The Your Learning Body membership is a Feldenkrais based somatic movement community grounded in using gentle movement to teach self-awareness, improve function and eliminate pain. Cynthia Allen is particularly interested in helping people with chronic pain or a history of trauma find easier living.
Cynthia is also a trainer in another Somatic Education approach called Bones for Life®. The Bones for Life program was developed by Ruthy Alon and provides a somatic movement answer to the challenge of balance, function, and bone/joint health across a lifetime. In this program, the learning principles of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais are reinterpreted into the upright environment so they engage and stimulate the bones to function in a counter-gravity way. Bones for Life fills a need for a more contained and direct approach to posture, balance and bone health. Equally as valuable as the Feldenkrais approach, each movement process is paced to the individual so you can learn to move efficiently and pleasurably.
We are pleased to offer you a downloadable PDF that will tell you more about these powerful somatic approaches and how they can benefit you.
