Five Element Reiki is the result of over twenty years of study by Bruce Davis in the application of foundation principles, and source knowledge of Reiki. It is not a new system of Reiki, per se, but a bridging of modern Reiki session practice with this knowledge.
Five Element theory refers to the Taoist concept of Five Elements, which is 2,500 to 3,000 years old, and has existed in a more rudimentary way even longer. Perhaps as long as 5,000 years by some estimates. This is the core knowledge of many eastern practices, such as Feng Shui, Martial Arts, energy work (Chi Gong), Classical Chinese Medicine, and Taoist spiritual practices. The Five Elements are not to be confused with the periodic table of elements in western science. Five Element describes the qualities of life force energy cycles in Nature, including organic and inorganic matter, and therefore in the bodies of physical beings as well. This understanding bridges, and explains our temporal nature as energetic-physical beings, and the many cycles that we experience. Like all systems with proven workability, it is an open-ended evolving model with much room for refinement.
Reiki exists today in many forms, or systems, like Karuna Reiki and Usui-Tibetan Reiki. These typically represent a blending of Reiki teachings as they have existed in the west with teachings from other healing systems and philosophies. There are also other branches of Reiki in Japan which developed over time since the founder’s passing.
Traditional Japanese Reiki is a close reconstruction of Reiki as it was originally practiced in Japan during the early part of the 20th century. Bruce’s study of Traditional Japanese Reiki, beginning in 1997, accelerated the process of moving deeper into the roots of Reiki.
Many of the practices that holistic healers use today have their roots in Taoist Five Element theory, meridian theory, Ayurveda, and other health and healing practices which were developed from these bodies of knowledge. That is also the case with modern massage techniques. In the past few hundred years, as East and West have very slowly come closer together, a wider exchange of this knowledge has been made possible.
5 Element Reiki & Acupressure Bodywork
Reiki/Acupressure sessions are 60 to 90 minutes in length, and are done fully clothed except for shoes. Reiki promotes profound relaxation and emotional peace. Reiki balances and strengthens the life force energy (or chi) by reducing blocks to energy flow through the body’s meridian (energy pathway) system. Reiki also helps to release stagnation, which may contribute to stress and lack of vitality.
In working with others, Bruce employs a diversified session technique which includes standard Reiki practice and gentle acupressure; along with the skilled listening and facilitation abilities required for an effective experience that honors each person’s uniqueness.
