The New Cornell Food and Brand Lab provided a recent study of what they call the “mindlessly slim.” What are the secrets that people who always seems to look fit have in common?
Volunteers who had successfully maintained a healthy weight throughout their adult life were the subjects. From there, the subjects were split into two groups. 112 people that indicated they didn’t do anything special at all to maintain their weight. This “mindlessly slim” group was mined for their personal strategies. And here they are:
Eating high-quality foods
Cooking at home
Listening to inner cues.
Routine Behaviors May Be Key in Maintaining Body Weight
This group of mindlessly slim people also enjoy food more, have less guilt about overeating, and tend to trust their own inner authority for food guidance.
“If there is one thing to avoid when trying to lose or maintain a healthy weight, it’s a restrictive diet! Instead, simple routine behaviors may be key.” says study co-author Brian Wansink, PhD
I have always said that the Feldenkrais Method doesn’t have that much to offer those seeking to lose weight. Except, we are great at helping people tune into inner sensations. Stress can be a big trigger and if you have other ways to manage stress, you may not need the food. If you can’t feel when you are truly full, then how can you know when to stop.
However, we do have two approaches at Future Life Now that do pack a punch for healthful eating and weight management. Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Acupuncture. And both practices have a great deal of respect for each individual, and their own inner knowing.
